AML is a non-profit organization formed June of 2005 in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico to serve the needs of the community through spay and neuter programs. The HistoryDenise Jones DVM has been a resident of a small community south of Loreto for 7 years and during this time sterilized the dogs and cats brought to her by her neighbors. In the fall of 2004 Maria de La Luz Gonzales (Lucy) approached her to help in a spay-neuter project for the street dogs of Loreto.Denise and Lucy received official permission from the Mexican authorities in January of 2005. As of January 2006 more than 300 animals have been sterilized, the vast majority female, on Lucy's kitchen counter. The PatientsFeral dogs and cats are collected by Lucy with her student helpers, from the local dumps, a popular dropping spot, as well as from the streets of the various neighborhoods. This service is also offered to Loreto residents who can not afford to pay for the sterilization of their pets. While no one is charged for this service, we do ask for donations. The Board of DirectorsLucy Gonzales, PresidenteDenise Mary Jones, Veterinarian Trudi Angel, Treasurer Misty Mattics, Graphic Designer Suzanna Brown DVM , Honorary Member |
