HISTORY
Denise Jones DVM has been a resident of a small community south of Loreto for 7 years and during this time sterilized the dogs and cats brought to her by her neighbors. In the fall of 2004 Maria de La Luz Gonzales (Lucy) approached her to help in a spay-neuter project for the street dogs of Loreto.

Denise and Lucy received official permission from the Mexican authorities in January of 2005. At last, in 2005, we have been able to move out of Lucy's kitchen!

As of January 2006 more than 5000 animals have been sterilized, the vast majority female.

ANIMALANDIA MUNICIPAL LORETO has received great support from the local community

A former Presidente Muncipal of Loreto, Rodolfo (Rury) Davis Osuna, donated a piece of city property for the construction of a spay-neuter clinic and guaranteed that the city would pay future water and electricity bills. Many others have donated time to clean the property, fence the property, put in the electric service etc.

The local Notary Public, Raul Zuniga, donated his services to form the non-profit (Associacion Civil). A Loreto architect, Jesus Cortez, donated his time to design the spay-neuter facility for AML. A local accountant Noe Murrillo Barrera donated his services monthly for the first year of operation.

The local American community has also been generous with time, materials, and money. A very special thanks to Marla Daily who has been the driving force behind getting things done, especially fund raising. Thanks also goes to all the many helpers needed on spay days for the endless tasks needed to assist the vets and make sure the animals have everything needed for a safe surgery.

The Patients
Feral  dogs and cats are collected by Lucy and other volunteers from the various neighborhoods. Loreto residents are notified of upcoming clinics through posted handbills, word of mouth and announcement vehicles.  No one is charged for this service, but we do ask for donations.
